The Turkish Singer Cansu Arat was born in Izmir (Turkey) on the 22nd of April 2003. She went to the TAKEV German College in Izmir and prepared herself for the entrance exams for Jazz Studies in 2020. She started singing professionally at the age of 18 when she started her Jazz Bachelor studies in the „Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg“ in 2021. Since then she has been performing in different projects & with her own band actively in Hamburg and in Germany. On top of that she toured two times with her Quartet and Quintet in Turkey and played in the most known Turkish Jazz Clubs in Istanbul. Furthermore she participated in The European Jazz Laboratory 2022 in Parma/Italy, and in the Jazz BIP 2023 in Siena/Italy.

Bands

Cansu Arat Group

The Cansu Arat Group featuring the young musicians Cansu Arat (vocals) , Hedwig Janko (Alto / Soprano Saxophone), Kirill Kretsu (Piano), Melanie Streitmatter (Bass) and Jacob Wagener (Drums) got together in 2022 during their Jazz Studies in „Hochschule für Musik und Theater Hamburg“ and has been playing regularly mostly in Germany and also in Turkey since then. They made their first Tour in Turkey in the end of March 2023.

The group interprets Jazz Standards in a traditional and modern way that focuses on interplay and bringing individual colors to the sound of the band. Their Repertoire is based on arrangements of famous Vocal Jazz Records and their own.

Cansu Arat & Kirill Kretsu

Duo

The Piano and Vocal Duo of Cansu Arat and Kirill Kretsu is influenced by the Duo of „Tony Bennett and Bill Evans“. The Duo has been playing together since 2022. They interpret and arrange Jazz Standards in a traditional way which brings out the beautiful side of the sound mixture of the voice and piano. The Duo started to plan a tribute concert for „Tony Bennett and Bill Evans in August 2023 and they will be performing it for the first time on the 19th of December 2023 in JazzHall Hamburg.

SOUYA

The Vocal and Guitar Duo of Cansu Arat and Pouya Abdi, SOUYA interprets traditional Jazz Standards and arranges them in a modern way with complex harmony and unison lines which brings out the own sound of the Duo.

The music that they play is influenced by the American Jazz music of the 50s to 60s and Brazilian music.
